With heavy hearts, we pray for the speedy recovery of one of our brother in Christ.. He is now in coma due to serious inflection of his lungs that now is spread to his brains.. The combat is yet to be over.. dreadful and distasteful, these microbes are 'eating' him alive....Only a miracle can wake him up normal...

It is ripe time that all of us need to be educated on anti-biotics and microbes.  No one has bad or ill intentions.. just being too careful or over precaution over certain matters.  All of us care, but not there, to dare to fight the right fights against microbes attacking our people and our loved ones..

Everyday we are battling with bacteria.... you win, you are healthy but if you fail, you will be 'feasted upon' by these microbes...and say byebye to our loved ones forever...

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria: Who is winning the battle?

Physicians and clinicians face an ongoing challenge: to keep up with increasingly stubborn, resistant bacteria that cause significant infections. The more exposure bacteria have to our available antibiotics, the higher their chances of evolution into a resistant form, with serious effects on medical care.

The heavy use of antibiotics, from hand soap ingredients to prescriptions, for conditions that won't even respond to an antibiotic is fostering the proliferation of these heavy-duty bugs. Over the past 10 years, the number of resistant bacteria has proliferated at an alarming rate.

One mechanism of response is to reduce the overuse of antibiotics in general - something we can all help with, in the interest of more appropriate treatment and the health of the environment.

Another important approach is to make sure the antibiotics used are the ones most effective in killing the bacteria causing the infection. A targeted antibiotic that does the job right and knocks out all the bacteria stops that organism's opportunity to learn and evolve into a stronger form that poses a more serious health risk.

Battle of the Bugs: Fighting Antibiotic Resistance... from FDA


Ever since antibiotics became widely available about 50 years ago, they have been hailed as miracle drugs--magic bullets able to destroy disease-causing bacteria.

But with each passing decade, bacteria that resist not only single, but multiple, antibiotics--making some diseases particularly hard to control--have become increasingly widespread. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), virtually all significant bacterial infections in the world are becoming resistant to the antibiotic treatment of choice. For some of us, bacterial resistance could mean more visits to the doctor, a lengthier illness, and possibly more toxic drugs. For others, it could mean death. The CDC estimates that, each year, nearly 2 million people in the United States acquire an infection while in a hospital, resulting in 90,000 deaths. More than 70 percent of the bacteria that cause these infections are resistant to at least one of the antibiotics commonly used to treat them.

Antibiotic resistance, also known as antimicrobial resistance, is not a new phenomenon. Just a few years after the first antibiotic, penicillin, became widely used in the late 1940s, penicillin-resistant infections emerged that were caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). These "staph" infections range from urinary tract infections to bacterial pneumonia. Methicillin, one of the strongest in the arsenal of drugs to treat staph infections, is no longer effective against some strains of S. aureus. Vancomycin, which is the most lethal drug against these resistant pathogens, may be in danger of losing its effectiveness; recently, some strains of S. aureus that are resistant to vancomycin have been reported.

Although resistant bacteria have been around a long time, the scenario today is different from even just 10 years ago, says Stuart Levy, M.D., president of the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics. "The number of bacteria resistant to many different antibiotics has increased, in many cases, tenfold or more. Even new drugs that have been approved are confronting resistance, fortunately in small amounts, but we have to be careful how they're used. If used for extended periods of time, they too risk becoming ineffective early on."

How will anti-biotics harm our immune system?

Antibiotics destroy both harmful and friendly bacteria in our body. When these friendly bacteria are also destroyed, our immune system will be at stake since we need those friendly bacteria to support the body's immune system.

Antibiotics also increase the resistance of just any harmful bacteria that may happen to survive, thus they suppress the body's ability to produce its own natural antibiotics.

Antibiotics may be necessary for serious, life-threatening infections, but most of the antibiotics are simply prescribed for the sake of prescibing. The antibiotics developed over the last 30 years have not destroyed the source of diseases, but instead these diseases-causing microbes have mutated instead.

The mutated microbes when exposed to super drugs are now no longer fearing just any antibiotics. Even the most powerful drugs are nowadays finding themselves losing to those mutated microbes.

At the same time, all of us are are also exposed to consuming meats highly laced with antibiotics necessary for the survival of those animals, thus instead ending up in our own stomach. Steroids too are found in these meats that also attack our immune system.

There are certain natural occurring plant origins that can also replace antibiotics too. Studies have found Echinaecia, garlic and some herbs to work well as to boost the immune system too especially when one is down with a cold. Do look out for some natural remedies instead of using harmful antibiotics that brings more harm than cure.
